What is the configuration of the Virtual Servers?
What HTTP server do the Virtual Servers use? What Operating System do they run? What hardware and software do they use? What type of connection to the net?

The web server software is a custom version of the Apache server that has been extended to provide dynamic module loading. See the web server FAQ for more information.

The Operating System is either BSDI BSD/OS or FreeBSD.

To find out which operating system your virtual server currently runs, telnet to the virtual server and run the uname command. Over time, all virtual servers will be running FreeBSD.

The Virtual Servers run on dual 400 mHz Pentium II processors with 256MB of RAM with Ultra SCSI 2 disk I/O. There are between 60 and 80 virtual servers on each physical machine.

The servers in the Salt Lake Data Center are connected via two Verio OC3 (155 MBps) and one Sprint DS3 (45 MBps) connection for additional redundancy. The servers in the Vienna and San Jose Data Centers are connected directly to MAE East and West respectively, one of the world's premier public peering points, via multiple Verio OC12 (620 MBps) connections. The servers in Frankfurt, Germany are connected through the Colt facility via one Colt (100mBps) and one Deutsche Telekom DS3 (45mBps) connection.
